Falmouth artist joins Danka Napiorkowska and Chloe Michell in their show
Inspired by time spent down in West Cornwall and around her home town of Falmouth and the North Coast, Ruth’s latest work sees her explore acrylic on canvas. A cohesive colour palette threads through her latest body of work with weighted brush strokes, palette knife markings and the paint itself build up rich textural layers forming this collection of artworks.
Ruth studied at Falmouth Art College in the late nineties and from this forged a career spanning the last twenty years in the creative industry as a graphic designer and art director. It was after a visit to the home of Julie Friedeberger in London two summers ago that this chance meeting inspired Ruth to pick up a paintbrush once again, thanks to Julie’s late husband, the artist Klaus Friedeberger.
“I was privileged to stand in Klaus’s studio amongst the canvases he once painted. It felt empty with him not being there, yet so full. Scatterings of paint colours still in their tubes filled plastic Tupperware tubs, pots of brushes all clean and ready to be used once more, a collection of easels proudly standing tall in the attic room, a wall full of notes and paper cuttings. As I looked around, Julie asked me if I wanted to help myself to some brushes and palette knives. My eyes started to fill with tears at her generosity. It took me a moment to answer. Julie, thank you – I will be forever grateful”.
